For HEL, Quality Management is a Journey, not a Destination.

Quality drives for achieving operational excellence at HEL were conceptualized right from the project stage. Our Quality, Environment, and OHS policies are in keeping with the essence of core values of the RP-SG Group & is the foundation of the company’s Integrated Management System (IMS).

Significant initiatives for continual improvement in Quality and beyond:
Top Performing Power Plant:

HEL has benchmark  performance on some key technical parameters and has been consistently placed among top-performing thermal power plants in terms of plant load factor. A strong commitment towards excellence in all verticals of operation is the key driver behind this achievement.

Integrated management system (IMS) Certification:

The certification for ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) & OHSAS 18001 (OH&S) was achieved within the first year of operation. Currently, the company has migrated to the latest versions of  ISO 9001 , ISO 14001 &  is also certified for ISO 45001(OH&S)  and ISO 50001 (Energy Management )

Accreditation of Coal Laboratory by NABL:

The coal testing laboratory of the company was also able to achieve the accreditation of NABL within one year of operation. The laboratory is equipped with state of the art modern testing machines and facilities.

Implementation of 5S:

To take the quality efforts forward, the company has begun the implementation of 5S after the completion of IMS certification. Implementation of 5S in the model zones is completed. Horizontal deployment of 5S across the organization is in progress.

Promoting Cross-Functional teams:

Various cross-functional teams have been formed for specialized assignments related to quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The teams are empowered to carry out and implement experimental prototypes in the system for better implementation.

Automation and Big Data Computing:

HEL has adopted a structured, criticality-driven maintenance philosophy with FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) based equipment maintenance strategy to increase reliability and reduce redundancies. Statistical methods of data analysis and incident investigation are incorporated in the system to identify process deviations and act accordingly.

Web based tracking of critical processes and applications:

Customized web-based applications have been developed in-house to track and monitor important process updates for corrective and preventive actions. Such applications have also been horizontally extended for many administrative functions .

Building a Learning Organization

Comprehensive training programs are carried out regularly in a planned manner to keep the employees abreast with the latest technologies and also for self-development, for the mutual benefit of the organization and the individual.
