About the plant

Haldia Energy Limited, a group company of the flagship RP- SG Group, developed a 2X300 MW Coal based Thermal Power station at Haldia, West Bengal to cater to the growing power demand in the city of Kolkata and its suburbs. The units began commercial operation from January 2015 onwards.

The company is in a long term power purchase agreement with CESC Limited, a power distribution licensee for the state capital and its suburbs. The power from the station is evacuated through an 89 km long dedicated 400 kV twin circuit twin moose transmission line which includes two 236 m high river-crossing transmission towers across a span of 1572 m over the river Hooghly, which are the heaviest and tallest in India .
